PostDoc in the field of cementitious construction materials
The topic of the 3 years project is the study of the reactivity, hydration mechanisms and properties of mineral binders incorporating alternative supplementary cementitious materials.The main objectives of this study include (i) sourcing and characterization of locally available, alternative supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), (ii) exploring the reactivity and the hydration mechanism of alternative SCMs in blends with Portland cements and in cement-free systems by experiments and thermodynamic modelling, (iii) identifying admixtures to enhance the reactivity of alternative SCMs, and (iv) studying mechanical properties, volume changes and durability of mortars based on the new cementitious binders.
We are looking for a creative and innovative person, with a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Earth Sciences, Civil Engineering or related fields. You have good experience with X-ray diffraction analysis, thermogravimetry, scanning electron microscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, analysis of aqueous solutions, geochemical modelling and the knowledge of cement hydration as well as a strong background in materials science. Good skills in design and operation of experimental setups are an advantage. Excellent communication and writing skills in English are mandatory, good German language skills are desirable.
