to develop lead free glasses and glass-ceramic composite materials and the associated processing to manufacture high quality sealing material resistant to harsh environments. This should then be applied to joining of alumina ceramic and metal components for use in high performance sensors. An in depth knowledge of glass processing, glass melting, glass chemistry and production is necessary. Practical experience of joining, testing of joints via mechanical and microstructural characterization techniques is an advantage.
For this demanding project we are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a Ph.D. in glasses, ceramics, chemistry or materials science. The candidate needs to be fluent in English (oral and written) and preferably has a basic knowledge of German, with a proven track publication record.
This position will be available from October 1st, 2020 with a planned duration of 2 years.
